Accessibility
Horizon Leeds continues to work towards being more accessible for all our delegates. We work hard to ensure that our venue has appropriate facilities and train our team to provide the best possible service for all.
Horizon Leeds is located on the 3rd floor of 2 Brewery Wharf, Kendell Street, Leeds. The venue is across the road from The Leonardo Hotel (formerly Jurys Inn), with the entrance adjacent to the Woodlock apartments.
Public Transport Travel Plan
Leeds City Station is managed by Network Rail and provides accessible ticket machines and an accessible ticket office counter. Within the station they also have an induction loop, a ramp for train access plus assistance to and from platforms, disabled toilets and lifts or level access to all platforms.
Leeds City Bus and Coach Station is conveniently located in the city centre with National Express and Megabus operating regular coaches from destinations across the country direct into Leeds. The station is owned and managed by Metro. They have introduced a dedicated team to help customers with a disability. You can contact them on. 08717 81 81 79 (option 4) open 8am – 8pm 7 days a week. They advise that you call before booking and at least 36 hours in advance of when you want to travel.
Car Parking
Accessible parking is available on Waterloo Street, there are 3 bays of on-street parking located around 100m from the front doors of Horizon Leeds. These spaces cannot be pre-booked and operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can also find additional accessible parking, here. Access to the building is via an intercom system. The intercom is located on a post to the right-hand side of the main door, to contact Horizon Leeds reception press 3 followed by the enter key, Reception will release the door lock to provide access, a loud instruction (This will state: ‘The door is open’) will be given notifying you the door has been released. The main doors are pull to enter.
The front entrance to 2 Brewery Warf (Horizon Leeds is situated on the 3rd floor) is wheelchair accessible, there are two lifts available which access all floors of the building. Each lift has its own call button which is located on the left-hand side of the lift frame inside the recess, each lift has spoken destination information. The buttons in each of the lifts have raised numbers and symbols for identification.
There are stairs to all floors in the building. All staircases and landings have handrails. The stairwell is located through ground floor foyer, the main the door on the ground floor to the left-hand side of the lifts.
There are: 22 steps between each floor, separated by one landing. Each floor step sequence is: 10 steps, landing, 12 steps.
Wheelchair Access
The building is fully accessible for wheelchairs. The venue is open-planned, and the door widths are accessible to most wheelchairs. Specific measurements can be provided on request.
Toilets
Accessible toilets are available in the foyer of each floor, for directions or assistance please ask a member of the Horizon Leeds team. We also have dedicated toilets in the reception area of Horizon Leeds.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome at Horizon Leeds. Water bowls can be obtained by any member of staff.
Lighting
At Horizon Leeds, there is a mixture of natural light and light from our LED spotlights. We can adjust and control the lighting in each room to accommodate any delegate with visual impairment. Please speak to the Horizon Leeds team ahead of your event.
Acoustics
Across the venue, we have made every effort to ensure that there is limited noise disruption from other events. Acoustic panels have been installed in our communal areas to reduce sound, minimising the transfer of noise between meeting rooms.
In the event of an emergency at Horizon Leeds, you will hear an alarm sound which is a very rapid, high-pitched sound. You may also hear the following sounds during your visit:
- Hand-driers in the toilet
- Catering trolleys
- Coffee machines
- Audiovisual
- Music
Hearing Loops
Hearing loops are available upon request. Please speak to our Horizon Leeds team before your event to arrange.
All members of the Horizon Leeds team have completed and are certified in WeSupportDeaf Awareness employee training.
In the event of an emergency, an evacuation or emergency situation you will be notified to exit the building by either an alarm sounding (fire, smoke) or by a member of venue staff.
The Meeting/Event organiser will be informed of fire safety and evacuation information by a member of the Horizon Leeds team prior to the start of the meeting. This ‘housekeeping’ information will be relayed to delegates as the meeting starts.
In an emergency situation, follow the instructions that are provided to you.
Our priorities are:
- Exiting everyone from the building calmly and safely
- Not stopping to collect belongings
- Exiting the building or making your way to designated refuge areas to wait for assistance is priority
- Exercising caution on stairwells
- Do not take food and drinks that can spill causing dangerous situations
Horizon Leeds staff will highlight the safest exit routes in the building during an emergency. Venue staff will be identified from their yellow high-vis vests.
The meeting organiser is responsible for your group, upon evacuation they may take roll call to ensure everyone is accounted for. If registration is required at your event, please make sure you are signing in and out.
